Seeing "Windows protected your PC"?

That is not a virus and your download is not damaged. Windows shows this for any new app that has no code-signing certificate and little download history yet. Three clicks and you are in.

When the blue dialog appears

If a full blue "Windows protected your PC" panel shows up after you double-click the installer, do not close it with the X.

Windows protected your PC Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk. More info Click this first (most people miss it) Run anyway Then this appears — click it Don't run
  1. Click More info at the bottom-left of the blue panel — the button is hidden until you do
  2. The panel expands and a Run anyway button appears at the bottom right. Click it
  3. The installer starts normally

Note: this only tells Windows "I know where this came from and I trust it". It changes no system settings.

2

Fix it once, never see it again

You only need to do this once per file. After that, double-clicking just works.

NameHero_v0.0.11_Setup.exe Properties General Security: This file came from another computer and might be blocked. Unblock tick this box OK Cancel No such line? The file was never blocked — just double-click it.
  1. Right-click the downloaded NameHero_v0.0.11_Setup.exe → Properties
  2. On the General tab, scroll to the very bottom and tick Unblock
  3. Click OK, then double-click the installer

Why it works: your browser tags downloads with a "came from the internet" mark, and Windows only shows the blue panel for marked files. Unblocking removes the mark.

3

Antivirus deleted the installer

Occasionally the file gets quarantined or removed without any prompt.

  1. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history
  2. Find the NameHero entry, click Actions → Restore, then Allow on device
  3. Double-click the installer again. If it was permanently deleted, download it once more

Context: this is a heuristic false positive on an app the scanner has never seen. NameHero runs entirely on your machine and never uploads file contents, so it is safe to allow.

4

Prefer zero hassle? Use the portable build

The "Download for Windows" button on the homepage gives you a portable zip. Unzip and run — no install, no registry entries, uninstall by deleting the folder.

  1. Download 命名侠NameHero_v0.0.11_便携版.zip
  2. Before extracting, right-click the zip → Properties → tick Unblock → OK (this step keeps the extracted app unmarked too)
  3. Extract with any archive tool and run namehero.exe

Tip: right-click the exe → "Send to → Desktop (create shortcut)" for the same convenience as an installed copy.

Why Windows does this

Windows verifies a digital signature on every executable. A signature is effectively an ID card, purchased from a certificate authority for roughly $200–600 a year, proving the software really comes from a given publisher and has not been tampered with since release.

NameHero does not have that certificate yet, so Windows can only report "unknown publisher" and err on the side of caution. Every new app goes through this stage — it says nothing about whether the software is safe.

What we are doing about it: publishing to the Microsoft Store, where Microsoft signs the package on our behalf so store installs show no warnings at all, plus this guide to keep the interim period painless. If anything is unclear, just email us.
